D. Farahani, OD "Since
early childhood, I always had hopes and dreams of obtaining the
means necessary to be able to help people in need. Early on, I
found out that the best possible way for me to achieve my goals
was through education. I have been blessed with the opportunity
to obtain such education by completing my college, optometry school,
and residency training. Following three years of practice at Mann-Berkeley
Eye Center, I was presented with the wonderful opportunity to
join the Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Science at The
University of Texas Medical School at Houston. For the past six
years, I have had the privilege of providing quality eye care
to thousands of wonderful people in need of eye care at Acres
Home Clinic. This clinic is one of the ten Harris County Hospital
District’s community clinics that provide comprehensive
medical care to thousands of patients. Our patient population
consists mainly of elderly men and women of low socio-economic
status. It has been extremely rewarding for me to be able to provide
them with the quality eye care they deserve. It has been a short
six years, but I take pride in the fact that our doctor/patient
relationship has evolved into a family-type bond that makes my
days filled with joy. Of course, the task of providing comprehensive
eye care for these wonderful people could not have been accomplished
without the full support of my mentors and colleagues at the Hermann
Eye Center and the Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Science.
I am proud to be a member of this team of caring individuals who
serve those in need of our expertise to maintain the health of
our patients' precious gift of sight. I consider it a blessing
to be able to do the work I love and be rewarded for it with smiling
faces and warm handshakes. My goal and objective has been, and
will continue to be, to insure the visual welfare of my patients,
regardless of their economic status. It is gratifying to know
that I stand alongside my colleagues in the pursuit of this endeavor."
