
Nan
Wang, MD, PhD
Dr. Wang is
a graduate of Baylor College of Medicine, where she graduated
with honors. She also received her PhD degree in biochemistry
from Baylor College of Medicine’s Graduate School of Biomedical
Science. She finished her ophthalmology residency at Baylor College
of Medicine, which was followed by fellowship training in refractive,
corneal, and cataract surgery.
Dr. Wang is
a Clinical Assistant Professor of Ophthalmology in the Department.
She is a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, American
Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery, Texas Medical Association,
Chinese American Doctors Association of Houston, and Alpha Omega
Alpha Honor Medical Society. She participates in teaching cataract
surgery at the Annual Meetings of the American Academy of Ophthalmology.
In addition
to her special interests and fellowship training in corneal, anterior
segment disease, and refractive surgery, Dr. Wang provides general
ophthalmologic care to patients at the Cizik Eye Clinic. She
performs routine eye exams, prescribes glasses, and fits contact
lenses, in addition to treating various ocular pathologies. She
performs LASIK, PRK, and LASEK surgery to treat myopia, hyperopia,
and astigmatism.
She has a
strong research interest in biochemical and biophysical properties
of the eye. She has had extensive research experience and currently
is involved in studying the outcomes of refractive surgery.
Dr. Wang was
born in China and is fluent in Mandarin. She is very involved
in Houston’s Chinese civic community and helped build the
Chinese Civic Center’s Bao Shan Jin Library. She also is
active in Hua Xia Chinese School. Dr. Wang participates in community
outreach and public education activities about general eye disease
and the need for proper eye care. She recently was invited by
radio station AM 1180 to talk about cataracts. Her health column
about common ocular diseases has been circulated widely in Southern
Chinese Daily News.
